Day care or boarding in St Albans?
Day care and overnight boarding solve different problems, and most of the eighteen dog boarders, day cares and kennels listed for St Albans offer both rather than one alone. Sixteen offer an overnight stay of some kind, and fourteen offer day care; twelve offer both.
Day care only, no overnight stays
Two businesses run day care with no overnight boarding on this site: Your Paws Pet Services, which runs a day care, training and wellness centre called The Farmhouse in Hatfield, and Canine Karma, which runs day care, training and a dog park at Smug Oak Stables near Bricket Wood — its overnight boarding licence sits at a separate Canine Karma site in Three Rivers, not this one. If your dog only needs somewhere to go during a working day, these two are worth calling first.
Overnight stays only, no day care
Four businesses take dogs overnight but do not describe a day-care option on their own site: Zoomeez and Every K9 Active, both home boarders based in St Albans; St Albans Dog Walking & Boarding Company, which covers St Albans, Redbourn, Sandridge, Chiswell Green, London Colney and Harpenden; and Croft Farm Kennels, the town's one boarding kennels, licensed for up to 36 dogs on a 40-acre site between Harpenden and Wheathampstead.
Where the two overlap
Twelve businesses offer both an overnight stay and day care: Kate's K9s, Harley's Doggy Services, Albany Active Paws, Hayes Hounds Hotel, Marley & Me Doggy Day Care, Snouts, Sarah's Dog Boarding, Lisa's Home Pet Care, The Wag House, Hounds on the Heath and Woof Woof Walk, all home boarders, plus Elmtree Luxury Pet Hotel, whose services also list boarding alongside its purpose-built day-care centre at Coleman Green. A dog can move between a day visit and a full stay with any of these twelve without changing business.
Ask which one you actually need
If you're not sure whether your dog needs a day away or a night away, describe your situation directly: how long the dog will be away from you, whether it has been left with strangers before, and whether it needs medication or has anxiety around other dogs. Hounds on the Heath, in the London Colney area, also offers 24-hour at-home care as a further option between a day visit and a full boarding stay, which is worth asking about if neither quite fits.
Cats and other pets
A handful of businesses here look after more than dogs. Hayes Hounds Hotel offers cat feeding and care visits alongside dog boarding, Hounds on the Heath includes cat and kitten visits in its round of services, and Lisa's Home Pet Care covers cat and small pet home visits as well as dog day care and boarding. If you have more than one type of pet needing cover at the same time, ask directly whether a business can take both under one booking.
