Day care or boarding in Slough and Windsor?

Day care and overnight boarding solve two different problems, and most of Slough and Windsor's eleven listed businesses actually offer some combination of the two rather than sitting neatly on one side. Six of the eleven offer day care in some form, and nine offer an overnight stay, either at a fixed kennels, through a home boarder, or via a host-matching service.

Day care: for a working day, not a holiday

Day care is for a dog that would otherwise be alone through a working day: it goes in after breakfast and comes home at teatime rather than staying overnight. Bruce's Doggy Day Care (Cookham) and Claire's Comfy Canines, based in Burnham, offer day care only, with no overnight boarding at all. Four more businesses combine day care with home boarding under one roof: Lulu's Home Boarding & Day care and Bertie and Friends, both in the Maidenhead area, Datchet Dog Walking in the Langley area, and SpeediePAWS in the Windsor & Eton area. If you need day care regularly and might occasionally need an overnight stay too, one of these four is worth calling first so your dog already knows the place.

Overnight boarding: kennels, a home, or a host family

Nine of the eleven businesses offer some form of overnight stay. Old Beams Kennels and Cattery and The Tarbay Centre, both near Windsor, and Joe's Folly at Taplow, run purpose-built boarding kennels; all three also take cats, and Joe's Folly takes small animals too. Lulu's, Bertie and Friends, Datchet Dog Walking and SpeediePAWS, named above, board overnight in their own homes as well as running day care. Hound Love holds a home boarding licence, but its current website advertises only dog training, so ask directly whether it still boards dogs before you get in touch about a stay. Barking Mad – Windsor & Staines does not board dogs itself at all: it matches your dog with a vetted host family covering Windsor, Eton and Old Windsor. See our home boarding or kennels guide for how a home stay compares with a kennels stay.

Which to choose

If your dog needs looking after during a working day and will sleep at home every night, Bruce's Doggy Day Care, Claire's Comfy Canines, or one of the four combined businesses above can cover it. If you are going away and need overnight cover, choose between the three boarding kennels, one of the home boarders, or Barking Mad's host-matching service. Only four of the eleven publish a price; see our Slough and Windsor prices guide for what they charge and what to ask everyone else. Whichever you choose, ask about a trial or settling-in visit first; see our first stay guide for what to expect, and see our area-by-area guide for what is listed closest to you.
