Day care or overnight boarding in Manchester?
Twenty-three dog boarders, day cares and kennels are listed for Manchester. Fourteen of them hold a day-care licence, for a dog that goes in for the day and comes home in the evening, and fifteen board dogs overnight: thirteen in a home boarder's own house and two in purpose-built boarding kennels. Several businesses hold more than one licence, so the same address can answer both needs.
When day care fits
Day care suits a dog that would otherwise be alone through a working day. Dedicated day cares with no boarding licence at all include Daycare 4 Dogs in Wythenshawe, The Barkside in Manchester city centre & Ancoats, Dogz Club Ltd and Olivia's Doggy Daycare in Stockport, The Bark Yard and The Bark Yard Warehouse also in Stockport, Doolittle Pets & Groomers in Prestwich & Bury, and Planet Paws Bury, also in that area.
When overnight boarding fits
Overnight boarding is for a night away rather than a day. Thirteen of Manchester's businesses board dogs in their own home, spread mostly across Sale & Altrincham and Stockport. Only two, Pawprints Kennels and K9 Retreat, both in Prestwich & Bury, are licensed as boarding kennels in the strict sense; two more, Moss Cottage Kennels and Cattery and Roe Clare Cattery & Kennels in Sale & Altrincham, describe themselves as kennels on their own sites but are actually licensed by Trafford Council under home boarding and day care. See our home boarding or kennels guide for what that distinction means in practice.
Businesses that do both
Bark Park Central and The Doggy House, both home boarders in Sale & Altrincham, hold both a home boarding and a day care licence, as does K9 Retreat in Prestwich & Bury alongside its kennels licence. If your dog is already boarding somewhere overnight, ask whether the same business can also take it for an occasional day, rather than starting again with somewhere new.
What each option tends to cost
Day care here is usually priced by the day or half day: Planet Paws Bury charges £24 for a full day and £17 for a half day, and Alfie's Pet Services charges £18.15 for a day between 7:30am and 7pm. Overnight boarding is priced differently again: The Doodle House and Happi Walks both quote £42 for 24 hours, while Alfie's Pet Services is cheaper at £25.30 for a weekday or a longer stay. These are a handful of published examples rather than a full list; see our prices guide for the rest.
Deciding between them
- Is your dog used to a full day alone, or would it cope better going somewhere?
- Would your dog settle faster in a family home, a kennel, or a smaller day-care setting?
- Do your dates need one night, several, or a regular weekly day?
Published prices for both are in our Manchester prices guide.
