Day care or boarding in Harrogate?

Day care and overnight boarding solve different problems, and most of the businesses listed for Harrogate offer only one or the other rather than both. Of the twenty-four dog boarders, day cares and kennels on this page, fourteen offer day care in some form, and twenty offer an overnight stay, either in a kennels or in the boarder's own home; ten of the twenty-four offer both.

Day care only, no overnight stays

Four businesses run day care from a dedicated site with no overnight boarding at all: Tatty & Tilly's, on five acres near Pateley Bridge with a doggy bus into Harrogate; CenterBarks Dog Daycare, in a purpose-built unit at Sowerby on the edge of Thirsk; DogSmith of Thirsk, at Dalton, which also runs a combined care-and-training 'Day School'; and Just For Dogs Day Care in Northallerton, which prices a full day at £25 and a half day at £18. If your dog only needs somewhere to go during a working day, these four are worth calling first.

Overnight boarding, in a kennels or a home

The other twenty businesses take dogs overnight. Twelve run boarding kennels — Harlow Kennels & Cattery, Mucky Paws Boarding Kennels, Petties Paws, Sutton Grange Boarding Kennels, Wilderbrook Kennels & Secret Garden Cattery, Brackenfarg Kennels, Moor View Kennels & Cattery, Romanby Kennels, Abbotsway Kennels, Low Shires Boarding Kennels, Derrings Kennels and Studforth Kennels — and eight are home boarders, taking dogs into their own house instead: FlowerDown, The Walkabout Company, Maddie's Retreat, Harry & Co. Canine Solutions, Cutters Canines & Equines, Paws 4 Walkies, The Easingwold Waggy Dog Walker and Dog Tired.

Where the two overlap

Ten businesses offer both an overnight stay and day care: Harlow Kennels & Cattery, Mucky Paws Boarding Kennels and Petties Paws among the kennels, and The Walkabout Company, Maddie's Retreat, Harry & Co. Canine Solutions, Paws 4 Walkies and The Easingwold Waggy Dog Walker among the home boarders, plus Abbotsway Kennels and Derrings Kennels. A dog can move between a day visit and a full stay with any of these ten without changing business, which is worth asking about if you're not sure yet which you'll need.

Ask which one you actually need

If you're not sure whether your dog needs a day away or a night away, describe your situation directly: how long the dog will be away from you, whether it has been left with strangers before, and whether it needs medication or has anxiety around other dogs. Harry & Co. Canine Solutions, a home boarder in Ripon run by a qualified dog behaviourist, is one of several businesses here that also offers behaviour consultations alongside boarding, which is worth mentioning if your dog's temperament is part of the decision.

Cats and other animals

Seven of Harrogate's kennels also board cats alongside dogs: Harlow, Mucky Paws, Petties Paws, Sutton Grange, Wilderbrook, Moor View and Romanby. If you need cover for more than one type of pet at the same time, ask directly whether a business can take both under one booking rather than assuming a dog-only business will.
