Day care or boarding in Canterbury?
Day care and overnight boarding solve different problems, and several of Canterbury's businesses offer both, so the choice is not always between two separate businesses. Of the eleven dog boarding, day-care and home-boarding businesses on this page, six list day care among their services: Muddy Pups, K9 Kindergarten, Handy Pet Services, We Love Pets Canterbury & Whitstable, Milo & Co and Whitstable Dog Care.
When day care fits
Day care suits a dog that would otherwise be alone through a working day rather than one that needs to stay overnight. Two of the six — Muddy Pups, near Blean, and K9 Kindergarten, in Sturry — list only day care and related services (Muddy Pups caps its own numbers at eight dogs a day; K9 Kindergarten pairs day care with off-lead walking and training), with no overnight boarding listed among their own services.
When overnight boarding fits
Nine businesses on this page list overnight or home boarding among their services: Handy Pet Services, We Love Pets Canterbury & Whitstable, Jenkins Canine Services, Milo & Co, Red Lion Canines and Whitstable Dog Care as home boarders, plus Pet Lodge Boarding Kennels & Hydrotherapy Centre, Canterbury's one boarding kennels, and the home boarders Bay Pawz and Barking Mad (Canterbury & Herne Bay). Four of these — Handy Pet Services, We Love Pets, Milo & Co and Whitstable Dog Care — also list day care, so a dog can move between a day visit and a full stay with the same business.
One licence, more than the marketed service
Canterbury City Council's own register lists Muddy Pups and K9 Kindergarten as licensed for home boarding as well as day care, even though neither business's own published services mention an overnight stay. That is a fact about how the licence happens to be recorded, not a sign of anything wrong, but it is a reason to ask a business directly what it actually offers rather than relying on its services list alone.
Ask which one you actually need
If you are not sure whether your dog needs a day or a night away, describe your situation directly: how long the dog will be away from you, whether it has been left with strangers before, and whether it needs medication or has any anxiety around other dogs. Muddy Pups lists medication administration among its own services, which is worth raising if that applies to yours.
Training alongside day care or boarding
Several of Canterbury's home boarders also offer dog training or behaviour advice: K9 Kindergarten runs puppy training and group classes, Jenkins Canine Services and Red Lion Canines both offer training and behaviour work alongside their boarding, and Pet Lodge Boarding Kennels & Hydrotherapy Centre runs obedience and agility classes and canine first-aid courses. If training is something you want alongside a stay, ask whether it is included or booked separately.
