How to choose dog boarding or day care in Blackpool and the Fylde coast
Thirteen dog boarders, day cares and kennels are listed across Blackpool and the Fylde coast: eight in the Blackpool centre & South Shore area, two in Lytham St Annes, two in Poulton-le-Fylde and one in Cleveleys & Thornton. Blackpool north & Bispham, Fleetwood and Layton & Marton have no business published here at the time of writing, even though some businesses based elsewhere in the town say they will travel to those areas — ask directly whether a business covers your postcode before assuming it does.
Home boarding or a kennels/day-care site
Six of the thirteen are home boarders, caring for your dog in their own house rather than a purpose-built site: Lindsey's Doggy Daycare and Holly Wood Hounds in Blackpool, Be Yappy and Alpha Pet Care (both mobile, covering a wide area from a Blackpool base), Holidays for Dogs in Poulton-le-Fylde, and Barking Mad Wyre and Fylde, which matches dogs with a host family across Wyre and Fylde rather than running one fixed address. As with any home boarder, only the area and town are shown on these listings; an address is a matter for the business once you have booked. The other seven run from a dedicated site: Westway Kennels & Daycare, K9 Daycare, Gee's Doggie Daycare and Balmoral Boarding Kennels & Cattery in the Blackpool area, Dog World Boarding and St Anne's Kennels & Cattery in Lytham St Annes, and Woofy Warehouse Doggy Day Care in Poulton-le-Fylde. A home boarder usually takes far fewer dogs at a time than a kennels; ask how many other dogs, and from how many households, will be there during your dates.
The council licence position in this area
Three councils cover the areas listed here, and none of their registers currently publishes a star rating for this town. Ten of the thirteen listed businesses hold a licence confirmed against a register. Blackpool Council and Fylde Borough Council each run their own public register (Fylde's version) on the same IDOX register software, and neither one shows a star field for boarding, home boarding or day care licences on the view checked, so no council star rating is published for any Blackpool- or Fylde-licensed business here, whatever a business's own site might say. Wyre Council, which covers Woofy Warehouse Doggy Day Care, Holidays for Dogs and Barking Mad Wyre and Fylde, has no register of its own; its licence numbers and expiry dates were confirmed instead through the animal-licensing.uk mirror, a third-party site, not a Wyre Council page. Wyre has not adopted that mirror as its own register, so no star is published from it either. Three businesses are shown without a licence block: K9 Daycare and Alpha Pet Care both state on their own sites that they are licensed, but neither could be matched to an entry on Blackpool Council's register under its trading name or the owner's name; and Holidays for Dogs' licence, per the Wyre mirror's copy of the register, expired on 26 March 2026, with no live Wyre register to confirm a renewal. Ask any of these three directly to see a current licence certificate before booking.
Questions worth asking before you book
- Can I see your current council licence certificate, and which council issued it?
- What vaccinations do you require, and how long before the stay do you need proof of them?
- What is your policy on kennel cough?
- Do you have any breed restrictions or conditions, including for an XL Bully with a valid exemption certificate?
- How many other dogs will be there during my dates, and are they from one household or several?
- How is medication given during a stay, and is there an extra charge for it?
- What happens if my dog needs a vet while in your care, and who decides and pays?
- Are you insured, and can you show evidence of current cover?
None of the businesses listed here publish a vaccination schedule or a stated insurance position beyond what appears on their own site or licence, so these are questions to put to the business directly rather than answers this directory can give on its behalf.
