How Warrington's councils license dog boarders
Warrington's fifteen listed dog boarders, day cares and kennels are licensed across four different councils, because the page's six areas do not line up neatly with council boundaries.
Warrington Borough Council
Eight businesses — Digs for Dogs, PetStay and Pawsitive Retreat in the Warrington centre area, WAGGIO and Pets Homes and Gardens Stockton Heath in Birchwood & Culcheth, The Dogs Pad Kennels & Cattery in Stockton Heath & Appleton, No More Kennels in Great Sankey & Penketh, and Wellie Dogs Walks (unconfirmed, see below) — sit under Warrington Borough Council. The council's register is read here through a third-party mirror site rather than the council's own page, so although that mirror does carry a star rating for each operator, no star is shown for any of these listings; only the licence number and expiry appear. Pawsitive Retreat's licence has already reached its expiry date on the register, and No More Kennels' and The Dogs Pad's are both due to expire within days of this page being checked, so ask directly whether each has been renewed.
Wigan Council
Four businesses, on the Golborne and Lowton side of the Newton-le-Willows & Golborne area — Wyllow's Walkies, Hollybank Boarding Cattery & Kennels, Dogs Country Club and We Love Pets Wigan — are licensed by Wigan Council, which publishes its own register directly and gives a star rating for every entry. Wyllow's Walkies is rated 5 stars, Hollybank and We Love Pets Wigan are both rated 3 stars, and Dogs Country Club holds two separate licences at the same address, rated 1 star for boarding kennels and 4 stars for home boarding, which is why no single star figure is shown for it here.
Cheshire West and Chester Council
The three Northwich businesses — The Hound House, Canine Clubhouse and Happy Feet Dog Boarding — all state on their own websites that they hold a Cheshire West and Chester Council licence, but that council's own register could not be read for this research, so none of the three has been independently confirmed and no star rating is shown for any of them.
St Helens Borough Council and Newton-le-Willows
Newton-le-Willows itself, in the WA12 postcode area, is licensed by St Helens Borough Council, which keeps no public register at all. No independent business could be confirmed trading there; every business shown under "Newton-le-Willows & Golborne" on this page is in fact on the Golborne or Lowton side, licensed by Wigan Council instead. Wellie Dogs Walks, near Dutton, quotes a licence number matching neither Warrington Borough Council's nor Cheshire West and Chester Council's format, so which council licenses it could not be confirmed.
What this means for you
A council licence and a customer review are two separate things, and this site never mixes them.
