How Tamworth and Lichfield's councils license dog boarders
Every dog boarder, kennels and day care needs a council licence to operate in England. Tamworth, Lichfield and Rugeley & Burntwood's eleven listed businesses are licensed by two councils, Tamworth Borough Council and Lichfield District Council, and a third, Cannock Chase District Council, licenses the Cannock and Hednesford side of the Rugeley & Burntwood area, though no business currently listed here falls under it.
Tamworth Borough Council
The five businesses in the Tamworth area — Auntie Amie's Dog Walking and Pet Services, Bark N Bunk, Best Friends Doggy Day Care, Classic Canines Day Care and Where'z Wally Dog Grooming & Doggy Day Care Ltd — are licensed by Tamworth Borough Council. The council does not publish its own register online; the licence facts shown here come from a mirror of its records on animal-licensing.uk, which gives an expiry date for each business but no licence number. Auntie Amie's recorded expiry, 6 August 2026, has already passed on the mirror's own record — worth asking about directly.
Lichfield District Council
The six businesses across Lichfield and Rugeley & Burntwood — Grove Kennels Ltd, Brookfields Luxury Boarding, Absolute Pet Care, My Best Friend Dog Care, Edial Boarding Kennels & Cattery and Old Barn Kennels — are licensed by Lichfield District Council. Its own register is also not published online; the licence facts shown here come from a mirror on animal-licensing.uk, which gives a licence number for each business but no expiry date.
No star rating shown here
England's councils rate a licence 1 to 5 stars after inspection, and that figure is a council rating, not a customer review. Because neither Tamworth Borough Council's nor Lichfield District Council's own register was available to check a star rating against directly, no star rating is shown for any of the eleven businesses on this site, even where one may appear on the mirror itself.
Rugeley itself
The Rugeley & Burntwood area name covers two councils. All four businesses currently listed under it are licensed by Lichfield District Council and sit on the Burntwood side; Cannock Chase District Council, which licenses Rugeley itself, publishes its own mirror pages with no address or ward information at all for any licence holder, so almost none of its licensees could be placed here with any confidence. If you are specifically near Rugeley, ask a Cannock Chase-licensed business directly where it is based.
What this means for you
Because neither register can be checked directly, none of the eleven listed businesses can be verified against a council-run database the way a business in a town with its own online register can be.
