Day care or boarding in Swindon?

Day care and overnight boarding solve different problems, and several of the businesses listed for Swindon offer both, so the choice is not always between two separate businesses. Of the 29 dog boarding, day-care and home-boarding businesses on this page, 13 list day care among their services, spread across both home boarders and fixed-site kennels.

Day care from a fixed site

Doggy Day Care & Grooming Swindon, on Moredon Road in Haydon Wick, runs day care only, for up to thirty-two dogs, without offering overnight stays. Braydon Dogs near Purton, Flaxlands Kennels & Cattery and Red Lodge Canine Country Club near Royal Wootton Bassett, and Droveway Kennels and Chogs near Highworth all combine day care with overnight boarding kennels on the same site, so a dog can move between the two without changing business if needed.

Day care from a home boarder

Several home boarders also offer day care rather than only overnight stays: Cary's Canines, Scruffs Doggy Day Care, Happy Home for Hounds, Bark'N Stay, Pooch'n'Pals, Betts Pets and Nythe Farm Home Boarding all list day care alongside home boarding. Pooch'n'Pals, in Haydon Wick, publishes the clearest price split of any of these: £22 for an ordinary day, rising to £32 if the day runs into an overnight stay.

When overnight boarding fits

The other 16 businesses on this page offer overnight or home boarding without day care as a separate service, including Rocco's Retreat and Goldborough House Kennels & Cattery, both fixed-site kennels, and thirteen home boarders such as It's A Dogs Life and Charlie's Pet Care. See the companion guide on home boarding or kennels for what separates a kennels from a home boarder.

Tiered and membership pricing

Red Lodge Canine Country Club is the one business here to publish a membership discount for day care: £60 for a single ad-hoc day, dropping to an average of £36 a day for a dog attending five days a week, alongside a separate puppy school at £50 a day. If your dog needs day care regularly rather than occasionally, it is worth asking any business here whether a similar discount applies.

Ask which one you actually need

If you are not sure whether your dog needs a day or a night away, describe your situation to the business directly: how long the dog will be away from you, whether it has been left with strangers before, and whether it needs medication or has any anxiety around other dogs. Highworth Pet Care, a home boarder that has traded since 2011, keeps to no more than three dogs at a time specifically to keep groups calm, which is worth asking about if your dog finds a large group stressful.

Cats and other pets

Several of Swindon's kennels double as a cattery: Flaxlands and Goldborough House near Royal Wootton Bassett, and Dukesmead near Marlborough, all board cats alongside dogs. If you have more than one type of pet needing cover at the same time, ask directly whether a business can take both under one booking.
