How Sutton Coldfield and Erdington's councils license dog boarders
Every business that boards or day-cares dogs commercially in England needs a licence from its local council, but the register behind that licence is not the same shape in every part of this page. Twelve businesses are listed across four areas: Sutton Coldfield, Four Oaks & Streetly and Walmley & Minworth mostly sit under Birmingham City Council, a pocket of Walmley & Minworth around Curdworth sits administratively in Warwickshire under North Warwickshire Borough Council, and Erdington has no current register entry for any business on this page at all.
Birmingham City Council's live register
Birmingham's register is published and checkable today, via a mirror site (animal-licensing.uk) that reproduces the council's own operator pages with a licence number, category and expiry date. Five of the twelve businesses here carry a current entry: Boldmere Home Dog Boarding and PetStay – West Midlands North & South Staffordshire (both dog home boarding), Wags Dog Day Care Ltd and Bark Doggy Daycare (both dog day care), and Walk & Wagg (dog home boarding). Two more businesses that sit inside Birmingham's licensing footprint, Pawpounders Doggy Day Care and Old Barn Kennels, were not found under their own name on the register at the time of checking, despite Pawpounders' own claim of a licence – ask either one directly what covers them.
North Warwickshire's 2023 list, for the Curdworth businesses
Four businesses trade from Curdworth, inside the B76 postcode district this page covers but administratively part of Warwickshire: Fetch Doggy Day Care, Nine Stones Boarding Kennels, Curdworth Kennels and The Paw Club. North Warwickshire Borough Council's website no longer publishes a current register; the only evidence found is an archived 2023 licensing list, last live online in June 2023, which recorded a category and a star rating (out of five) for each of the four but no issue or expiry date. Because the council does not publish anything current to check that archive against, no licence block is shown on these four businesses' own listings, and the archive's star figures are not repeated here as a current rating – treat 2023 evidence of a licence as a reason to ask, not as proof of today's position, and ask any of the four to see their current certificate.
Erdington: no current register entry
Erdington Pet Centre is the only business listed for Erdington, and it was not found on Birmingham City Council's public register at the time of checking, despite advertising an on-site boarding kennel. The one register entry the council's system held for this postcode area had already expired before this page was researched. Ask Erdington Pet Centre directly what, if any, current licence covers its kennel before booking.
What a licence number or star rating does and doesn't mean
A licence number and expiry date confirm the council has inspected the premises or home and set conditions on it, such as a maximum number of dogs; it says nothing about whether a particular business suits your dog. A council star rating, where one is shown, is the council's own inspection score, not a customer review, and this page never mixes the two under one rating badge.
