How Slough and Windsor's councils license dog boarders
Every one of the eleven dog day cares, boarding kennels and home boarders listed for Slough and Windsor needs a council licence to operate: it is a legal requirement in England, not something a business can opt out of. This page spans two licensing councils directly, plus one further licence claimed under a third council that was not checked this round.
Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead: the gold-standard register here
Eight of the eleven listings – Old Beams Kennels and Cattery, The Tarbay Centre, Bruce's Doggy Day Care (Cookham), Lulu's Home Boarding & Day care, Bertie and Friends, Hound Love, Datchet Dog Walking and SpeediePAWS – are confirmed against the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead's own animal welfare licensing register, checked September 2026. RBWM's register is a live, council-run table giving a licence number, address, animal count and a 1-to-5 star inspection rating for every entry, and every star rating shown against these eight listings comes from that register. A council licence rating is the council's own inspection score, not a customer review, so read it the way you would a food hygiene rating rather than a Google star. Ratings here run from 3 to 5 stars, with Bruce's Doggy Day Care and Bertie and Friends both holding the top band.
Slough Borough Council: a thinner register
Slough town centre and Langley fall under Slough Borough Council, which runs its own separate animal activity licence register. It is far thinner than RBWM's: it lists only a small number of home boarding licences, no boarding kennels or day-care entries for dogs, and no addresses at all. None of this page's current listings are confirmed against Slough Borough Council's register; Claire's Comfy Canines, the one business shown for Slough town centre, could not be matched to it, nor to RBWM's register. Its own site instead names a licence from the former South Bucks District Council, now part of Buckinghamshire Council, but that register was not checked during this research, so the claim is recorded as unverified rather than confirmed.
Two more without a matched licence
Joe's Folly, a kennels at Taplow that says on its own site it has traded in the area for over 50 years, sits squarely inside RBWM's licensing area but does not appear on its current register – a discrepancy worth asking the business, or the council, about directly rather than assuming either side is wrong. Barking Mad – Windsor & Staines is a home boarding matching franchise based in Staines, outside both Slough Borough Council and RBWM, so its own premises hold no licence from either council covered by this page; the host families it places dogs with would hold their own separate licences, which were not traced individually.
Whichever business you are considering, ask which council licensed it, for its current licence number, and to see the certificate itself rather than relying on a website's own claim.
