Reading's dog boarders, kennels and day-care businesses are not spread evenly across its seven areas. Some of that is licensing geography — Henley-on-Thames and part of Caversham sit under South Oxfordshire District Council, not one of Reading's own councils — and some of it is simply where premises with space, such as houses with gardens, farm buildings or industrial units, happen to be.

Wokingham & Finchampstead: the biggest concentration
Seven of Reading's 15 listed businesses are based in the Wokingham & Finchampstead area, all licensed by Wokingham Borough Council — mostly individual home boarders, plus Dog Trouble's boarding kennels licence and Stablecroft Pet Services' combined licence. Anyone in this area has the widest choice of any part of the town.
Caversham, Tilehurst and Henley-on-Thames
Caversham and Tilehurst each have two listed businesses. Caversham's are both licensed by South Oxfordshire District Council despite being on the Reading side of the boundary — Bluejay Dog Wellness's day-care site and Oscar's Daycare Centre, both near Sonning Common. Tilehurst has Rags & Bert's purpose-built unit and We Love Pets Reading West's home boarding franchise. Woodley, Earley and Reading town centre
Woodley & Sonning and Earley & Lower Earley each have one listed business — We Love Pets Woodley and Any Paws Petcare and Dog Boarding respectively. Reading town centre has none: no dog boarder, home boarder or day-care business with a premises inside RG1 was found on any of the four councils' registers covering this town. That fits a wider pattern: boarding and day care need space that a dense town centre rarely offers. Anyone based in central Reading currently needs to look to a neighbouring area such as Tilehurst or Caversham, both a short drive out.

If you're comparing two businesses from different areas, it's worth checking both listings' licence details rather than assuming they were checked the same way.
Only two areas, Tilehurst & Calcot and Wokingham & Finchampstead, have a business with a boarding kennels licence at all, so for most people the choice within an area is really a choice between the home boarders licensed there.
