Day care or boarding in Preston?

Day care and overnight boarding solve different problems, and several of the businesses listed for Preston offer both, so the choice is not always between two separate businesses. Of the sixteen kennels, day cares and home boarders on this page, nine list day care among their services: Frankies Doggy Daycare, Auntie's Doggie Day Care (Preston), We Love Pets Preston, Cow Hill Kennels, Danielle's Home Boarding and Doggie Day Care, Auntie's Doggie Day Care (Bamber Bridge), We Love Pets Lytham, Willows Country Friends and Joanna's Animal Care.

When day care fits

Day care suits a dog that would otherwise be alone through a working day rather than one that needs to stay the night. Four of the nine — Frankies Doggy Daycare, both Auntie's Doggie Day Care branches and Willows Country Friends — offer day care without an overnight option, so they suit that pattern specifically; Willows, near Barton, is a rural day care that also caps its numbers at ten dogs a day.

When overnight boarding fits

The other twelve businesses on this page board dogs overnight, either in a kennels or in the boarder's own home: Mill House, Danielle's Home Boarding, We Love Pets Preston, Digs for Dogs - Leyland, We Love Pets Lytham and Joanna's Animal Care as home boarders, and Cow Hill Kennels, High Heyes Farm, Landorn Kennels, Fur Cottage Kennels, Barton Boarding Kennels and Badgerswood Boarding Kennels as kennels. Five of the nine day-care providers — Cow Hill Kennels, Danielle's, We Love Pets Preston, We Love Pets Lytham and Joanna's Animal Care — offer both, so a dog can move between a day visit and a full stay without changing business.

Day boarding, not quite either

Cow Hill Kennels, in Fulwood, describes a middle option on its own site: doggy day boarding, with walks, playtime and time in a day pen, for an owner who wants more than a walk but not a full overnight stay. It is worth asking any kennels here whether it offers something similar even where its site only lists "boarding."

Ask which one you actually need

If you are not sure whether your dog needs a day or a night away, describe your situation directly: how long the dog will be away from you, whether it has been left with strangers before, and whether it needs medication or has any anxiety around other dogs. Barton Boarding Kennels, in Garstang, lists medication administration among its services, which is worth raising if that applies to yours.

Cats and other pets

Several of Preston's kennels double as a cattery: High Heyes Farm, Landorn Kennels, Fur Cottage Kennels and Badgerswood Boarding Kennels all board cats alongside dogs, and Badgerswood also takes small animals. If you have more than one type of pet needing cover at the same time, ask directly whether a business can take both under one booking rather than assuming a dog-only business will.
