How Poole and Wimborne's councils license dog boarders

Two councils cover this page's five areas. Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole (BCP) Council licenses Poole town centre, Parkstone & Branksome, Canford Heath & Broadstone, Upton & Lytchett Minster, and a slice of Wimborne Minster around Merley on the Poole boundary. Dorset Council licenses Wimborne Minster proper, further out from that edge.

BCP Council's register

BCP Council publishes its own downloadable register as a PDF, most recently dated 4 September 2026, covering around 130 licensed premises across Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole together. All nine businesses listed on this page are licensed by BCP Council, and because this is the council's own register rather than a third-party mirror, a star rating is shown for each. The register gives no phone or email field, which is why phone numbers on this page's listings come from each business's own site rather than the register.

Eight of the nine carry the top rating of 5 stars; The Dog Nook at Cranbrook carries 4. A council star rating is the council's own inspection score, tied to how often the licence is reinspected, not a customer review, so read it the way you would a food hygiene rating rather than a Google rating.

Wimborne Minster proper

Dorset Council, which licenses Wimborne Minster away from the Merley edge, does not publish a downloadable or bulk-searchable register at all, only a tool to look up one business at a time. A handful of Wimborne-area businesses found in research could not be confirmed against this or any register, and none of them had a verified phone number either, so none are published on this page; if you are considering one that is not listed, ask Dorset Council directly or ask the business to show its current licence certificate.

What to do with this

Ask to see the current licence certificate itself when you call, and check the expiry date shown here against what the certificate says. A licence that has lapsed is removed from this site the day it expires.

Why not every BCP-licensed business is listed here

BCP Council's register lists roughly 22 dog-relevant licences across this page's five areas, but not all of them are published here: several register rows gave only an address and a licence number, with no trading name, working website or phone number found for the business behind them, so they are left out under the same privacy and phone-verification rules applied across this whole site. A licensed business without a confirmed phone number is not published, whichever council issued its licence.
