How Newcastle's councils license dog boarders
Newcastle's seven listed areas sit across three separate licensing councils, and the three publish very different amounts of information, from a full public table down to nothing at all. North Tyneside Council runs the most useful register on this page; Gateshead Council's is reached through a third-party mirror; and Newcastle City Council, which covers Newcastle city centre, Jesmond & Heaton, Gosforth and Byker & Walker directly, publishes no public register of its licence holders at all, which matters more here than in a town where every council keeps some kind of list.
The three councils
| Council | Covers | Register | Star rating shown? |
|---|---|---|---|
| North Tyneside Council | wallsend-north-shields, whitley-bay-tynemouth | Own web table, checked directly | Yes, for confirmed entries |
| Gateshead Council | blaydon-ryton | Third-party mirror (animal-licensing.uk) | No |
| Newcastle City Council | newcastle-centre, jesmond-heaton, gosforth, byker-walker | No public register found | No |
North Tyneside: the best-covered register here
North Tyneside Council's own public register lists trading name, licence type, star rating and expiry date, and thirteen of Newcastle's nineteen listed businesses are checked against it directly: Small Paws Pet Services, Pillows & Paws, Canine Camp, Kate's Coastal Dog Care, Pets, Homes and Gardens - Whitley Bay, Furry Towers, Sam's Dog Boarding & Pet Services of Whitley Bay, The Doggy Day Care Centre - Whitley Bay, Purrfect 4 Pets, Hounds Haven and Peter & Paul's Dog Boarding all currently show a 5-star licence rating, and Whitley Bay Boarding Kennels & Cattery a 3-star rating, all checked September 2026. PetStay Newcastle upon Tyne, North Tyneside & South Northumberland and We Love Pets Newcastle quote licence numbers in North Tyneside's own format but could not be matched line-for-line against the register within this round's research, so both are shown as self-reported rather than register-confirmed. Furry Towers' own site quotes a lower 4-star rating than the register's current 5 stars; the register figure is what is shown here, as the primary source.
Gateshead and Newcastle City Council
Gateshead Council's register is reached only through a third-party mirror site rather than the council's own page, and that view gives a licence type and address for Petsercise and Barking Mad Newcastle & Tyne Valley (both Blaydon & Ryton) but no star rating field at all. Newcastle City Council itself publishes no register that could be checked for this page: TynePets and Nic's Stay and Play Doggy Daycare & Grooming Pawlour both operate under it, and both are shown here on their own stated licence details rather than a council-confirmed one. Ask either business to show its current certificate before booking.
A council licence rating like the ones above is a government inspection score, not a customer review, and it is shown here as plain text rather than a star-icon badge so the two are never confused.
