Home boarding or kennels in Lincoln?

Of the eleven dog boarding, day-care and home-boarding businesses listed for Lincoln, two are home boarders whose address is given only once you book, four run boarding kennels from a business site, and the rest hold a home-boarding licence but operate from a fixed, published business address rather than a private home.

Boarding kennels

Four businesses run boarding kennels from a purpose-built site: Kendrick’s K9 Services, in Saxilby, and Elderberry Boarding Kennels, on the A15 near Bracebridge Heath, both also hold a day-care licence; A17 Boarding Kennels & Cattery, near Heckington, and Corner Cottage Animal Boarding, near Gainsborough, both also take cats.

Home boarders whose address is given once you book

Two businesses are home boarders in the strict sense used across this site: your dog stays in the boarder’s own home, and only the area and town are published here. Lady Pea’s Dogs, in the Bracebridge Heath area, also runs a dog training practice; Lea Wood Trails and Tails, in the Gainsborough area, grew out of an existing family cattery. Ask either how many other dogs will be in the house during your dates, and whether they are all from one family or several.

A home-boarding licence run from a business address

Four more businesses hold a home-boarding licence but publish a fixed business address rather than keeping it private: A Groom With A View Lincoln, in the North Hykeham area, Absolutely Barkers Grantham and Who Lets Your Dog Out? UK, both in Grantham, and We Love Pets Sleaford, a branch of the national We Love Pets franchise. Licensing calls all four "home boarding," but they are not the same arrangement as Lady Pea’s Dogs or Lea Wood Trails and Tails, so ask directly whether your dog would actually stay in a private house or at the business’s own premises.

Which suits your dog

A kennels tends to suit a dog that is happy with its own space and a set routine among other dogs. A true home boarder tends to suit a dog that finds a kennels environment stressful, or one that is used to living in a house. Every licence here is issued under the same regulations regardless of which shape the business takes, so asking to see the certificate is the same question whichever type you choose.

Franchise and network models

We Love Pets Sleaford is a local branch of a national franchise rather than a single independent home boarder, run by a named licensee under the We Love Pets brand; ask whether the person who answers the phone is the person who would actually look after your dog, since a franchise branch can sometimes cover more than one carer.

Where each type sits

Lincoln’s two strict home boarders sit in the Bracebridge Heath and Gainsborough areas; its four kennels are spread across lincoln-centre, Bracebridge Heath, Sleaford and Gainsborough. See our area-by-area guide for the full breakdown.
