Day care or boarding in Leicester?
Day care and an overnight stay solve different problems, and several of Leicester's listed businesses offer both, so the choice isn't always between two separate businesses. Of the thirty dog day-care, boarding-kennels and home-boarding businesses listed here, eleven offer day care: Happy Paws Leicester, WAGS, Take The Lead, Little K9's, Dog Nanny Leicester, Charnwood Collar Club, Precious Paws Leicester, Doggy Day Care Leicester, The Dog Club Lubenham, K9 Home Boarding and Porter's Paw Patrol.
When day care fits
Day care suits a dog that would otherwise be alone through a working day rather than one that needs to stay overnight. Three of the eleven — Little K9's, Dog Nanny Leicester and Precious Paws Leicester — offer day care only, without an overnight stay recorded alongside it; Dog Nanny Leicester's own site does mention overnight stays for existing customers, but that isn't a general booking option, so it isn't counted as an overnight-boarding business here.
When an overnight stay fits
Twenty-five of Leicester's thirty businesses offer some form of overnight stay: thirteen as home boarding, five as boarding kennels (one of which, The Grange Boarding Kennels, runs both a kennels and a home-boarding licence), and the rest recorded as boarding without either exact term. Seventeen of the twenty-five offer an overnight stay without day care alongside it. Two further businesses, More4paws and TailTroopers, describe some kind of overnight care on their own sites — More4paws states boarding is currently paused, and TailTroopers' licence could not be matched to a council register — so neither is counted as offering a bookable overnight stay here.
Ask which one you actually need
If you're not sure whether your dog needs a day or a night away, describe your situation to the business directly: how long the dog will be away from you, whether it has been left with strangers before, and whether it needs medication. K9 Home Boarding, in Market Harborough, separates day care, half-day care, overnight boarding and holiday boarding as distinct options, a useful model for describing what you actually need when you call any business.
Comparing a day and a night
Where prices are published, the gap is clear: Porter's Paw Patrol charges £30 for a full day of day care against £38 for 24 hours of overnight boarding Monday to Thursday; Furry Friends Pet Care Services charges £30 a night for one dog, with no separate day-care rate published. Ask for a like-for-like comparison against your own dates before deciding.
Cats and other pets
A few of Leicester's kennels double as a cattery: High Barn Farm Kennels & Cattery and Debdale Grange both take cats alongside dogs, and Furry Friends Pet Care Services, a home boarder, also boards cats. If you have more than one type of pet needing cover at the same time, ask directly whether a business can take both under one booking rather than assuming a dog-only business will.
