How Ipswich's four councils license dog boarding and day care
Ipswich's eighteen listed businesses fall under four separate licensing authorities, and each keeps its register in a different way. Knowing which one covers a business, and how current that register actually is, matters more here than in a town with a single council.

Why Ipswich Borough Council's own register needs care
East Suffolk, Mid Suffolk and Babergh's registers are all current and their star ratings and expiry dates are shown here as published. Ipswich Borough Council's own register is different: it is a single PDF dated December 2024, and the council has published nothing newer since. Two Ipswich-based home boarders, Walking Paws Ipswich and Suffolk Fairydogmother, each state an Ipswich licence on their own site, but that register shows the specific licence number lapsed in March 2025, so no licence block is shown for either here and renewal could not be independently confirmed. Dogs Squad's day-care licence also sits on that December 2024 list, running to June 2027 on paper, but because nothing newer has been published it is treated the same cautious way: ask to see the current certificate rather than take the listed date as confirmed.
Businesses not matched to any register
Rossi's Doggy Day Care and Boarding in Felixstowe and Primrose Hill Farm Boarding Kennels & Catteries near Needham Market both operate inside East Suffolk's or Mid Suffolk's area but could not be matched to either council's published register at the time of checking. That does not mean either is unlicensed, only that this directory could not confirm it from the public register — ask to see current paperwork before booking either. A business stating it holds a licence and a business confirmed against a council's own published list are two different levels of certainty, and this guide tries to say plainly which one applies to each Ipswich listing rather than blur the two together.
Star ratings
Where a star rating is shown elsewhere on this site for an Ipswich business, it runs from 1 to 5 and comes directly from the relevant council's own published register, not from a customer review. Treat it the way you would a food hygiene rating: a snapshot from the council's last inspection, not a measure of how a previous customer felt about the visit. It is shown only where read from a council register, never from a business's own claim about itself.
