How Hull's councils license dog boarders
Hull's 13 published businesses fall under two different councils, and the two run very different registers. Hull City Council covers the city itself (Hull city centre, west Hull, north Hull and Sutton) and publishes a downloadable register. East Riding of Yorkshire Council covers the edge-of-city districts (Anlaby, Hessle, Willerby & Kirk Ella, Cottingham and Hedon), and its own public register could not be read for this research.
Hull City Council's register
Hull City Council publishes a Licensed Animal Premises Register, dated November 2025, listing licence number, licence holder, activity and star rating, but no address and no expiry date. Two of Hull's 13 listed businesses are confirmed against this register by a clear trading-name match: Noah's Ark Dog Day School, licensed for day care and rated 5 stars, and Prestige Boarding Kennels, licensed for kennels and rated 3 stars. A third Hull-side business, Sue's Dog Boarding - Hull, is not shown as confirmed here: an outside directory cites a licence number that matches a home boarding entry on the register under a different first name only, a coincidence rather than a clear trading-name match, so it is not treated as confirmed. Oakwood Dog Day School, also Hull-side, holds a day-care licence type but its own number could not be matched cleanly to the register either, since the register carries two numbers against Noah's Ark's own trading name; ask either business to show its current certificate if this matters to you.
East Riding of Yorkshire Council
East Riding of Yorkshire Council's own public register returned a bot-check page to every attempt made for this research, so it could not be read directly. Every East Riding-side business here, including Burstwick Doggy Day Care, Wright Dog Walker Hedon, Cockapoo Hotel and Tailz 'n' Trailz, is shown with the licence number the business itself publishes, not one checked against the council's own list, and none of these is treated as a confirmed council match.
Star ratings, explained
Where a council rating is shown here, it is a council licence rating, not a customer review, and it is shown only when read from the council's own register, never from a business quoting its own rating. Noah's Ark's 5-star rating and Prestige's 3-star rating both come from Hull City Council's own published table; no East Riding-side business's rating here has been checked the same way.
What this means when you book
A confirmed council match tells you a business appears on the relevant register as of when we checked; it is not a guarantee of current standards, and a register can be updated the same day we check it. Ask any business, confirmed or not, to show its current licence certificate and number, and treat a star rating quoted only by the business itself, rather than read from a register, as unconfirmed until you have seen the certificate.
