Home boarding or kennels in Crawley?
Overnight boarding in Crawley comes in two different shapes: a home boarder, who takes your dog into their own house, or a boarding kennels, where dogs stay in individual runs or pens on a dedicated site. Of the eight Crawley businesses offering overnight stays, six are home boarders and two run boarding kennels. The Doghouse, Happy Dayz Dogs and The Dogfather offer day care only, with no overnight stay at all, so they sit outside this comparison.
Home boarding
Crawley's six home boarders are Sit and Stay Sussex (Nicky's Pet Minding), in Crawley town centre & Three Bridges, which currently says it cannot take on any more dogs for the foreseeable future; Vanity Fur West Hoathly, in East Grinstead, where boarded dogs stay alongside the owners' own Labrador and Golden Retriever; Bonnie's House, in Haywards Heath, for dogs up to 15kg; We Love Pets Haywards Heath, the local branch of a national franchise covering several villages around Haywards Heath; Go Barking, in Burgess Hill; and Peppa's Pooch Playhouse, a husband-and-wife business covering Burgess Hill, Haywards Heath and the surrounding villages. Three of the six — We Love Pets Haywards Heath, Go Barking and Peppa's Pooch Playhouse — are confirmed against Mid Sussex District Council's register mirror; the other three, Sit and Stay Sussex, Vanity Fur West Hoathly and Bonnie's House, are not, though Bonnie's House quotes a licence number on its own site that has not been independently confirmed. As with any home boarder, only the area and town are shown on each listing here, never a street address.
Boarding kennels
Crawley's two boarding kennels are Bulldog Holidays, at Ifield Wood in Ifield & Bewbush, a specialist site for bulldogs with its gates locked at 4pm unless out-of-hours collection is booked, and Cherry Tree Kennels & Cattery, on a ten-acre site near Balcombe, licensed for up to 104 dogs including 24 day-care spaces, plus 20 cats, and about 13 minutes from Gatwick Airport. Of the two, only Cherry Tree Kennels & Cattery is confirmed against Mid Sussex District Council's register; Bulldog Holidays states a licence number, LI/12/0140/ABDOG, on its own site that could not be matched to Crawley Borough Council's register in this research pass. See our council licences guide for the detail behind each licence, including why no star rating is shown for any Crawley listing.
Which suits your dog
A nervous dog, or one used to a lot of one-to-one attention, may settle better with a home boarder than in a kennel block, while a dog that copes well away from a family home, or an owner who wants a fixed, staffed site with set hours, may prefer purpose-built kennels such as Bulldog Holidays or Cherry Tree Kennels & Cattery. Ask either type of business how it introduces a new dog to its routine and how many other dogs, and from how many households, will be there during your dates; see our first stay guide for what a trial visit usually covers.
