Home boarding or kennels in Chesterfield?

What a boarding kennels gives you
A boarding kennels means your dog has its own space on a site built for it, with set feeding and exercise times and more dogs on site at once than a home boarder would take. Chesterfield's seven kennels licences are held by High Farm Boarding Kennels & Doggie Day Care, which also holds a separate day-care licence at the same Unstone Road site, and ADK9 at Breck Farm, both in or near the town centre area; Rex Pet Hotel and C Four Paws in Bolsover & Shirebrook; and Dog And Spoon, Birchwood Boarding Kennels and Cattery and Upperwood Boarding Kennels & Cattery in Matlock & Alfreton. Rex Pet Hotel, Birchwood and Upperwood also keep a cattery alongside the dog kennels, so ask if you need to board more than one type of pet at once.
What a home boarder gives you
A home boarder means your dog lives in somebody's house instead, usually alongside only one household's own dogs at a time; the address is given once you book, not published here. Chesterfield's eight licensed home boarders are Divine Dog Care, Spire Boarding for Dogs, The Old Dog House, Chesterfield Doggy Day Care and Little Chunks in the town centre area, Doggie Home From Home in Staveley & Brimington, and Booth's Rainbow Boarding and Hayley and Pete Dog Boarding in Matlock & Alfreton. Divine Dog Care states a complimentary meet-and-greet is required before any booking is confirmed, and Hayley and Pete Dog Boarding, run by a family of three, boards up to five dogs at a time.
Day care only, with no overnight licence
Four businesses hold a day-care licence with no separate licence for boarding kennels or home boarding: Rose Cottage Doggy Day Care & Doggy Hotel and House of Waggles Doggie Daycare in or near the town centre area, and Total Dog Daycare and Wagz Pet Boutique (The Doggy Drop Inn), both in Worksop. Rose Cottage's own site also describes an overnight "doggy hotel" stay on 5.5 acres of secure paddocks, alongside its day care, though its Chesterfield Borough Council licence covers day care rather than a separate boarding-kennels category; ask directly how an overnight stay there is licensed if you are considering one.
Which suits your dog
A kennels tends to suit a dog that is happy with its own space and a set routine; a home boarder tends to suit a dog that finds a group of strange dogs stressful, or one that is used to living in a house rather than a run. Neither type is licensed to a higher standard than the other by default: home boarding and boarding kennels sit under the same 2018 regulations, just as different categories, so asking to see the certificate is the same question either way.
