How Brighton's councils license dog boarders
Seventeen dog day care, home boarding and boarding-kennel businesses are listed for Brighton, and they fall under three different councils depending on where they are based: Brighton & Hove City Council for the city itself, Adur District Council around Portslade and Southwick, and Lewes District Council around Saltdean and Peacehaven. All three require a licence for dog boarding, home boarding and day care, but only one of the three publishes a register this site could read.
Brighton & Hove City Council
Twelve of the seventeen businesses fall under Brighton & Hove City Council. Its own animal activity licence holders page, checked September 2026, gives a name and a star rating from one to five under a single "Dog Boarding" category, with no address, licence number or expiry date for any entry. Eleven names on that list match a business here, all rated four or five stars:

Adur District Council
Two businesses, Sticks and Tricks and Little Bones, fall under Adur District Council, covering Portslade and Southwick. Its own online register portal returns an empty search form to every attempt rather than a usable list, and could not be read during research. Neither business has a confirmed register entry on this site as a result; Little Bones publishes its own licence number on its own site, recorded here as the business's claim rather than a fact checked against a council record.
Lewes District Council
Three businesses, Mystery Paws, Benwick Kennels & Cattery and Waves & Waggy Tails, fall under Lewes District Council, which runs the same style of licence, star rating and expiry-date scheme as Brighton & Hove. Its own register also could not be read during research, this time behind a bot-check page rather than an empty form. Benwick Kennels & Cattery has a licence number recorded from its own listings elsewhere, again as a claim rather than a confirmed register entry.
What a star rating means here
Where a star rating is shown, it is the council's own inspection score, similar in spirit to a food hygiene rating, and it is not a customer review. It says nothing about vaccination policy, breed rules or insurance, and it is not proof that a licence is still current, since none of these three councils' registers give an expiry date on the page this site could read. Ask to see the current licence and its expiry date directly, whichever council covers the business you are calling.
