Day care or boarding in Braintree?
Braintree doesn't have a premises-based day-care centre in this listing; day care here is offered only by two of Braintree's six home boarders, alongside overnight stays, rather than as a stand-alone business. If you need somewhere for your dog to spend a working day without staying overnight, that's a smaller choice locally than in some larger towns, but it does exist.
Where day care is available
Rachel's Doggy Lodge, based in the Rayne area, and Emma's Doggy Daycare and Boarding, in Braintree town centre, both list day care alongside home boarding on Braintree District Council's licence register. Both are licensed for home boarding and day care together, so a dog can move between a day visit and an overnight stay with the same business if needed, rather than switching provider.
When day care fits
Day care suits a dog that would otherwise be alone through a working day, rather than one that needs to stay away overnight. Ask either business what a typical day looks like, how many other dogs are usually there, and whether collection or drop-off is available, since neither website sets this out in detail.
When overnight boarding fits
The other eight businesses listed for Braintree offer overnight boarding without day care as a separate service: four run boarding kennels — Alfa Boarding Kennels & Cattery, Gayener Kennels and Paws and Claws (Essex) Ltd, all in the Rayne area, and Maplestead Kennels near Halstead — and four are home boarders taking dogs into their own house overnight only, in Halstead and Coggeshall. See the companion guide on home boarding or kennels for what separates the two.
Ask which one you actually need
If you're not sure whether your dog needs a day or a night away, describe your situation directly to whichever business you're calling: how long the dog will be away from you, whether it's been left with strangers before, and whether it needs medication or has any anxiety around other dogs. None of Braintree's listed day-care or boarding businesses publish set answers to this online, so a phone call is the way to find out.
Cats and other pets
Two of Braintree's kennels double as a cattery — Alfa Boarding Kennels & Cattery and Paws and Claws (Essex) Ltd — so if you have a cat as well as a dog needing cover at the same time, it's worth asking whether a business can take both under one booking rather than assuming a dog-only business will.
Prices for day care
Neither Rachel's Doggy Lodge nor Emma's Doggy Daycare and Boarding publishes a day-care price online, so the only way to find out what a single day or a course of days costs is to call and ask directly. Rachel's Doggy Lodge does publish one price on its own site, for its separately bookable private field rather than for day care itself: £14 for 50 minutes of off-lead play for up to four dogs, which is worth knowing about even if you're only considering day care.
